WestJet enhances web check-in

WestJet has introduced an enhanced web check-in feature that makes it easier for guests to check in online from their own computers. By going to www.westjet.com up to 24 hours before their scheduled domestic departures, guests can check in, select their seats, and print their boarding passes. This online check-in service is available up to one hour before departure. Once at the airport, all guests have to do is drop off their bags at the self-serve check-in baggage counter and enjoy their flight. —Source: WestJet

Airport Security Measures

To assist passengers, government agencies are advising travellers to follow these general guidelines:

  • Pack lightly to help facilitate airport security checkpoints.
  • Cooperate with security personnel at all checkpoints and gates. Security officers will be checking carry-on baggage at gates.
  • Passengers should allow extra time and plan to arrive at the airport in advance to accommodate any delays.
  • Check with carriers well in advance of flight departures for flight delays or cancellations.

New date for Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Department of State have announced new dates and requirements for the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) for air and sea travel. Canadian, US, Mexico, and Bermuda residents must present a passport to enter the United States when arriving by air or sea from any part of the Western Hemisphere beginning January 8, 2007. The previous date was January 1, 2007. The official word regarding land border crossings will be announced at a later date, but the plan is to have the same requirements in place by January 1, 2008. The land border rule will also address document requirements for ferry passengers and for vessels used exclusively for pleasure.
